Group 4 Project Plan Day Reflection

Bryan, Apr. 9

The myth that we want ot investigate is whether the Warp-engine spaceship is true. Our groups’ research question is the relationship between surface tension difference and the speed of the ship. Our experiment is closely related to warp engine ship, we she’s a very promising field in the future. All those spaceships in the future may be prompted by warp engines. I think my teammates are all very careful and considerate. They can plan and consider everything step-by-step, and carry out an explicit plan for the whole experiment. With our collaboration, our experiment is carefully designed, with carefully controlled confounding variables and operationalized dependent variables and independent variables. Their ideas are open, so that we can think critically to our process.

As a CS student, the four main skills we learn are abstraction, decomposition, pattern recognition and algorithmic thinking. With these skills, I will be able to chunk the whole process into different big parts, sensing the details and further decompose each tasks into more concrete steps, recognize the regulars and patterns behind observations and finally, the way of thinking in specific steps. These skills will help us to finish the EXP efficiently and scientifically.

The most challenging conflict so far is that we cannot measure the surface tension of each agent. The alternative plan for this is our Plan B, which is another experiment about the calcium concentration in a bowl of bone soup. People always say that soup with bone is rich in calcium ions, but we cannot warranty that this is true. So we might also do some experiments on this myth.
